Grant Rules and Conditions

Rules (Revised October 2015)

  1. These grants are regarded as Grants-in-Aid to assist New Zealand recipients in particular those unable to obtain significant assistance from other sources. Grants are not normally available for Professional dancers unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  2. Grants are normally made to recipients that have been chosen to perform at an overseas salsa congress or Latin festival, or have won entry into an international competition.
  3. Grants are for the purpose of funding travel costs only.
  4. Travel grants will normally be not more than $500 for a solo/couple and $1000 for a team. If a grant has been granted previously then a $2000 “lifetime” maximum will normally be applied.
  5. If there is a significant shortfall between the total of grants received and the costs of travel a supplemental amount up to 50% of the amount awarded may be granted. The extra amount will help towards 60% of travel costs but not more. This supplement is generally available to those without significant other support for their travel. This may be applied for when all grants and costs are known by the applicant who should then contact the grant subcommittee with appropriate details.
  6. Applications should be made at least 4 weeks in advance of the event but preferably longer. Deadlines are the last day of each of the following months: February, May, August and November. Decisions will usually be made within a month of each deadline.
  7. Applying for the grant does not guarantee that the application will be accepted.
  8. Preference will be given to people who have performed at the most recent Bay Salsa Festival before the event that this grant is being applied for.
  9. The decisions of the committee are final.
