About Us
Welcome to Bay Salsa!
As Karen’s love for salsa grew, she realized there was a lack of resources and opportunities for dancers in the Tauranga area. There were no regular events locally and there was only one teacher in the area at the time.
Karen was invited to assist the teacher during his classes in Mount Maunganui and Rotorua every week, but this wasn’t enough.
Determined to create a space where salsa dancers could come together, learn, and have fun, Karen, with the help of other dancers from the region, Dean Christie and Nicola Mauchline founded Bay Salsa in 2004. Initially, the organization consisted of just a few dedicated dancers, but it quickly grew as more and more people discovered the vibrant and supportive community.
Over the years, Bay Salsa has evolved into one of the premier salsa dance organizations in the Bay Area. Karen’s vision of creating a space where dancers can come together to learn, practice, and connect has become a reality, and the organization continues to grow and thrive.
Today, Bay Salsa offers a range of classes, workshops, social events, and outings for dancers of all levels and backgrounds. Karen’s legacy lives on, as Bay Salsa continues to inspire and support dancers in their journey to become better dancers and better people.
